Niagara Escarpment’s Halton Hills Celebrates Earth Day

Monday April 22nd, 2013, will mark the 43rd, anniversary of Earth Day. To promote environmental awareness and celebrate Earth Day the Town of Halton Hills is hosting “Earth Week” which includes activities such as: the 22 Minute Makeover, the Community Wide Clean-Up Day, Halton Hills Earth Day and the Earth Day and Sustainability Fair.
Celebrations will stretch from Saturday April 20th to Saturday April 27th, and will include:
Community Wide Clean-Up Day: Halton Hills is celebrating the 13th year of its annual spring cleaning.                  On April 20th, join neighbours and community groups to help clean up the Town to scour the parks, ravines and roadsides of Halton Hills to pick up litter and assorted debris. Once again register the area that you are cleaning to ensure the Town is completely cleaned. Free posters are available to download from the Town’s website to advertise your cleanup event. Free gloves and garbage bags are available from the Robert C. Austin Operations Centre located at 11620 Trafalgar Road (Georgetown), and also at participating McDonald’s Halton Hills restaurants. Gloves and bags have been provided through the generosity of Superior Glove, Tim Hortons and McDonald’s.

22-Minute Makeover: Over the past 4 years, we have had 100% participation from area schools and a growing number of businesses participating in our municipality, and we are hoping to attract even more this year! On Monday April 22nd, students and business colleagues are encouraged to take 22 minutes to spruce up the community. Registration is encouraged to ensure cleaning coverage of the Town. Free posters are available to download from the Town’s website to advertise your 22-Minute Makeover event. Free gloves and bags will be available from the Robert C. Austin Operations Centre at 11620 Trafalgar Road (Georgetown), and at participating McDonald’s Halton Hills restaurants.

Tree Sale at the Robert C. Austin Operations Centre: Earth Day celebrations will take place on Saturday April 27th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Town’s Robert C. Austin Operations Centre, 11620 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown. $5 trees, free mulch and wood chips, free electronic recycling, BBQ and more. Donations to local food banks are gratefully accepted. Earth Day and Sustainability Fair: On Saturday April 27th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Earth Day and Sustainability Fair will take place at the Georgetown Market Place (280 Guelph St., Georgetown) featuring live animals, interactive children’s activities and environmental groups. Donations to the local food banks are gratefully accepted.

Several ‘Green Leadership Tours’ are available throughout the Town on April 27th, 2013. Tour the new Halton Hills Library (Georgetown location) to learn about the green features of this building. Tour Devereaux House to learn about renovating and retrofitting using new green technology. The new Halton Hills Library (Acton location) LEEDTM certified facility will offer tours to the public to learn about the green technology and conservation features incorporated into this new facility. Willow Park in Norval is encouraging families to visit and enjoy the afternoon outside. Wastewise in Georgetown is offering tours of their recycling facility.
