Now available for free online, our Spring 2026 issue. The cover story highlights some gorgeous nature photography by Greg Noakes of Georgetown. His photograph of a delicate Eastern Black Swallowtail butterfly on a prickly Teasel flower made the cover image. Another favourite is the close up of a grumpy-looking American Toad. The elusive Scarlet Tanager is a difficult bird to see, let alone photograph, so Greg’s portrait is special. Also worth noting are the photographs of an American Mink, Eastern Bluebird, a Red Trillium and a Caspian Tern in flight.
In another feature, Sue Horner brings us up to date on changes and developments at Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary. Now that Esther the Wonder Pig has passed on, the two founders of the sanctuary have separated to create two new farms, one still the animal sanctuary in a new location, the other an agrotourism destination intended to serve as a fundraising centre to benefit other animal rescue efforts.
Visitors to Manitoulin Island who are interested in the Ojibwe culture need to explore M’Chigeeng’s Ojibwe Cultural Foundation. Gallery space for art, a museum, residential school display, healing lodge and gift shop offer plenty to see and learn, while the large crafts room holds classes for anyone from the public wanting to create Indigenous treasures.
If certain animals spook you so much that you don’t enjoy the outdoors, the feature on overcoming animal phobias offers tips on calming your reactions. In cases of extreme fears, a little knowledge goes a long way to improving your quality of life.
